چکیده

introduction:brain imaging with f-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18f-fdg) positron ‎emission tomography or tc-99m hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (‎99mtc-hmpao) spect is widely used for the evaluation of alzheimer's ‎dementia (ad); we aim to assess superiority of one method over the ‎other. methods: twenty four patients with clinical diagnosis of alzheimer disease ‎underwent 18f-fdg pet and ‎99mtc-hmpao spect in order to ‎assess the zones of hypo metabolism & hypoperfusion specific for ‎alzheimer's disease. results: 18f-fdg pet showed specific zones of ‎hypometabolism in 19 patients (79.1%) while spect was positive in 15 ‎cases (62.5%) with statistically significant difference (p= 0.027). conclusion: 18f-fdg pet was significantly superior to hmpao ‎spect and 18f-fdg pet could replace the classic role of perfusion ‎spect in diagnosis of alzheimer's disease.

Diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET in the assessment of myocardial viability in coronary artery disease: A comparative study with 99mTc SPECT and echocardiography

OBJECTIVE To investigate the diagnostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography ((18)F-FDG PET) in the assessment of myocardial viability in patients with known coronary artery disease (CAD) when compared to (99m)Tc single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and echocardiography, with invasive coronary angiography as the gold standard. METHODS Thirty patients with...

Factors influencing the pattern and intensity of myocardial 18F-FDG uptake in oncologic PET-CT imaging

Introduction:Myocardial 18F-FDG uptake is highly variable in oncologic whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT studies, ranging from quite intense to minimal distribution. Intense or heterogeneous myocardial 18F-FDG uptake is undesirable as it may interfere with the visual or quantitative evaluation of tumoral invasion and metastases in pericardium, myocardiu...

18F-FDG PET and perfusion SPECT in the diagnosis of Alzheimer and Lewy body dementias.

UNLABELLED Brain imaging with glucose ((18)F-FDG) PET or blood flow (hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime) SPECT is widely used for the differential diagnosis of dementia, though direct comparisons to clearly establish superiority of one method have not been undertaken. METHODS Subjects with Alzheimer disease (AD; n = 38) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB; n = 30) and controls (n = 30) underwent (...

Neuroimaging in dementia: an update for the general clinician

Types of imaging Brain imaging techniques currently used in the UK for the clinical assessment of dementia are grouped into three categories: structural, functional and molecular. Structural imaging includes computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The images produced by these methods allow one to see the anatomical ‘structure’ of cerebral tissue. They are used to detect a...
